Honestly, I never thought I would watch the movie A Wrinkle in Time. However, this movie provided lessons learned for me and I would like to share a few with you.

The other day I was up at 4:30 in the morning. I wasn't quite ready for the day but didn't want to go back to sleep. So, I turned on the TV, which mainly had on infomercials. I opted for a Netflix flick and honed in on A Wrinkle in Time, surprisingly.

Brief Summary

The story is about a teen-aged girl, named Meg, who goes on an adventure, along with her younger brother and friend Calvin, to find her father. Her father, a scientist, has been missing for 5 years after discovering the ability to travel through space and time.

Throughout the quest, the children are forced to confront powerful evil forces while being guided by 3 celestial beings, Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Whatsit. Meg is forced to search within and use her inner strength to defeat the darkness hidden within & externally.

Lesson Learned #1: Even in Darkness You Must Focus on the Light

There was a scene where Mrs. Whatsit transformed into a whimsical character for the kids to ride. The kids quickly transition from riding to flying with Mrs. Whatsit. They were laughing and enjoying the beautiful views, but in the distance, a horrendous dark energy appeared. Mrs. Whatsit braced herself and boldly continued ahead while Meg and her brother embraced with fear. Calvin lost focus and fell from the sky.

The children were no longer focused on the excitement of flying, but instead, instantly gave their attention to the dark "evil energy"ahead.

How many of us can relate to this analogy?

When negative or frightening situations arise your concentration is no longer on anything positive, and you give ALL attention to that which is flawed.

"Maybe you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light."-Madeline L'Engle

Luckily, Calvin had friends around, "the friends of light", who came to his rescue. Mrs. Which reminds us we must be taught: to focus on the light even when darkness is around.

Lesson Learned #2: Listen to Your Instincts

Calvin was at home doing his homework but felt this need to go to Meg's location. Meg asked Calvin why he was there and his response was he felt like he was called there. Little brother, Charles Wallace, informs Calvin "the truth is you were called here."

Calvin, not fully understanding why he was there was confident; nonetheless, he was indeed where he was supposed to be at that moment in time. With that sentiment from Calvin, Charles Wallace said let's go! The children initiated the adventure to find their father.

Have you ever had a deep feeling to go somewhere or to perform a certain act?

A deep pulling or yearning within is not by happenstance but it is, in fact, a divine appointment. Who knows what adventures await if you heed to that "gut feeling" telling you to go somewhere or do something?

You have been summoned and being in tuned can set you up to be at the right place at the right time.

Lesson Learned: You Must Have Balance in Your Life

I love yoga and there was a scene where Meg could not obtain balance. The Happy Medium character stated:

"You don't understand the importance of balance? Of moderation? The happy medium"

Although all things may not reach equal attention, as long as there is a balance, you will be happy.

In Conclusion

In A Wrinkle in Time, the darkness or the "IT" represents your fears, anxieties, insecurities, and weaknesses which cause envy, anger, resentment, rage, and violence. Nothing good was in the "IT."

It crippled you with fear causing paralysis in your life. You can't move ahead from past failures, hurts, disappointments and you are stagnant. Your stagnation and inability to forgive and love strengthened the darkness.

Learning to acknowledge and embrace your flaws eliminates the power of negative talk and thoughts, past failures and disappointments.

So, when others try to use your imperfections in life against you, you can choose to stand tall and focus on the light or lay down and wallow in the darkness.

"Acknowledge your imperfections, flaws, defeats, and failures and know that, that which was meant to make you weak has made you strong. "
