5 dental hygiene habits for your good oral health.

Your oral health is in your hands. Maintain these 5 dental hygiene habits to keep you mouth heathy and free of all oral and teeth problems.

Dental or Oral hygiene is not to be ignored, if you want to smile forever with healthy, strong, and shiny teeth.

With the rise of synthetic, refined and processed foods, it is becoming increasingly difficult to take care of your oral hygiene!

Plus, due to the growth of several complicated illnesses, that stimulate tooth infection, we suffer severe damages to our overall oral health.

Such illnesses include Diabetes, Cancer, Obesity, Blood pressure irregularity, and so on.

Most of the people, in general, are not much bothered about dental hygiene, till they experience the first sharp throbbing pain coming out after every hot or cold drink they have.

And, most of the time, when people recognize their deteriorating gum or oral health, it is either too late, or the treatment becomes too expensive to afford for the commoners.

But, if I tell you the real fact, then you probably won’t believe me completely. The fact is, you can treat 90% of all oral health related problems just by yourself. You need not to go to the dentists, or spend huge money!

Here, I will be listing down the 5 important dental hygiene habits that you should start to practice from now itself.

If you can keep up with the habits that I am about to lay down in front of you, then you will definitely be able to attain your desired level of good oral health.

Hence, without any further ado, let’s begin:

1. It’s not how many times you brush, it’s about how you brush:

Brushing makes up the very basic step of personal oral health care. Even though it looks like a petty issue, but I assure you, that it is the most important one.

We are all advised to brush at least twice a day, and most preferably after every meal. However, if you can brush the proper way, then probably you won’t need to head out for the brush, and toothpaste every now and then.

No matter what brush you use, how costly it is, it can never give you the optimum cleaning, until and unless you take your own time to scrub each and every corner of your mouth.

This is crucial for you to understand! If you brush minutely through and along your teeth and gum line, then it should take you roughly around 3 to 5 minutes.

By doing so, it should help you to eradicate most of your tooth and gum related problems, if not all of them.

Moreover, brushing like this way once a day, is enough to battle bad breath and plaque formation.

You should still try to brush 2 times a day, as one brushing session can protect your teeth completely for about 12 hours. The effect starts to wear off after this time span! Hence for 24 hours protection you need to brush twice.

2. Visiting your personal dentist on a regular basis is mandatory:

When you are advised to visit your dentist periodically, you should not ignore.

A dentist’s role is not only to treat all the oral and gum health problems, rather also making predictions about the onset of any disease, illness or complication you might face after months or years.

It might sound very unpractical, but it is the truth.

Most of the dental health problems accumulate over a long period of time. Say for example, Gingivitis or Periodontitis will not be an one month or two months affair.

You might never even know, but probably you are having initial stage of Gingivitis, and the whole thing started 2 years ago!

That’s an example, no need to freak out! But, it can be true too, you know, better check with your dentist!

Also, dentists these days look out for traces and signs of oral cancer, which is the most complex form of oral illness. Ulcers come next in line. Then you have tooth decay and so on!

To keep a track of your oral and dental hygiene, it is really mandatory that you visit your dentist at least once in every three months, if you want your oral health to be on the better side!

Lately, I have been hearing of NewTown Clinic, in Kolkata, West Bengal, that is currently hosting many of the best dentists in Kolkata, and surrounding region.

So, if you are residing in that zone or vicinity, then you can pay a visit to that clinic.

The clinic has personalised service too, where you can get the dentist of your choice, and make frequent appointments on the go, as per your convenience.

3. Periodical scaling and bleaching should be a habit:

Many believe that it is wasting of money to do scaling or bleaching. But, it is not so.

Scaling is important as it polishes your enamel, and helps to get rid of unwanted minerals and sediments from the teeth wall and gum lines.

Scaling your teeth once a year is pretty important, if you are suffering from teeth discoloration or plaque formation.

But, scaling is not a remedy for tooth sensitivity, and it can make the condition worse.

Therefore, if you are having sensitive teeth then you need to consult your dentist first, as conventional scaling or bleaching might not be applicable for you.

4. Never try to treat tooth abscess on your own:

Popping down an antibiotic along with a painkiller, whenever you are getting a toothache, is not at all advisable.

Both antibiotics and painkillers can prove fatal to you, if you don’t take them under proper medical supervision. Bacterias tend to get immune to antibiotics if you take the wrong ones and that too in wrong doses.

Thus, when the time comes for you to take that perticular medicine, it might just won’t work, as by then the bacterias have got immune due to your malpractice with antibiotics.

Painkillers on the other hand, can never be a permanent solution. It just reduces the pain for the time being, and will actually harm you if you take too much of them.

Therefore toothache and tooth abscess should be always treated with proper medication given to you by a dentist only.

5. Consider RCT over extraction:

Root Canal Treatment might be a bit expensive, but you should try to avoid extraction as much as possible.

Remember, that an artificial tooth can never be of the same rigidity, as what your original tooth offers.

Thus, don’t just go about extracting your teeth when there are possibilities that it can be repaired with the help of RCT.

Take your time and consult different dentists to get different opinions, and then make a decision!

Your oral health is in your hand!

Practice the habits discussed above, and it’s a guarantee that you will be relieved of most of your dental health problems and oral issues.

Have a happy and healthy life ahead.

Oral Health plays a very important part when it comes to taking care of overall health. And oral health not only involves brushing twice a day, flossing, and rinsing your mouth after meals. it is much more than that.

Did you know that the type of food we eat affects our oral health broadly? Just like the nutrients and minerals are important for our body, it is equally important for our Oral Health.

Eating healthy keeps your teeth and gums healthy. A properly balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. always proves to be beneficial in the long run not only for teeth but also for the gums.

Let us now know how various nutrients can be useful to maintain good oral health:

Calcium

The food is rich in calcium such as fat-free milk, cheese, almonds, green leafy vegetable help in keeping the teeth strong. They provide the strength required to the teeth.

Phosphorous

The food such as eggs, fish, meat, nuts and beans also keep the teeth strong and healthy

Vitamin C

The citrus fruit, tomatoes, broccoli, spinach, etc. contains Vitamin C which is helpful in keeping the gums healthy

Vitamin D

Vitamin D rich food such as Fatty fish, salmon, cheese, eggs yolk, etc. helps in re-mineralizing the enamel of the teeth

Make sure that you consume the nutrients as mentioned above in the right proportion to get all the nutrients important for your teeth.

Apart from this, the food that can prove to be the enemy of your teeth is sugar. Intaking excess sugar in any form can harm your teeth. They are the main reason for cavities in your mouth. They are responsible for creating acid in your mouth. Once the bacteria in your mouth come in contact with the acid created, then it will harm your teeth causing cavities which is basically a hole in your tooth. So make sure that you limit the intake of sugar in your diet to maintain the teeth.

Most people have the habit of snacking between the meals and at that time the food they attack is mostly sugary such as cookies, pastries, candy, and even carbonated drinks. This food then stays in your mouth for quite a time and the bacteria present in your mouth feed on these thus, causing damage to your teeth. If this habit continued for a longer time, then it will result in irresistible pain in the teeth and it may so happen that effect of cavities is higher and that it is damaging your teeth.

If you cannot resist snacking in between then go for a healthy alternative. Have fruits instead of chips, almonds instead of candies, even popcorns are a good alternative. You can also opt for cheese as an alternative for in between snacking.

And in case there is an urge to consume sugary food, then have it along with meals as a good amount of saliva is produced during the meals. This saliva washes food from the mouth and reduces the effect of acid in the mouth keeping your teeth and gums healthy.

Nutrient for Kids and Babies

Start paying attention to your toddlers eating habits. Make sure their diet includes all the nutrients and that they consume a well-balanced diet. Specific attention is required on calcium, phosphorous and fluoride.

Having healthy eating habits can protect your child from tooth decay and in addition to this, they will learn a healthy way of living which will eventually be beneficial for them in the long run.

Not only toddlers but the infant's habits are also to be taken care of. Do not pacify infants with juice or milk bottles. Sucking the bottles can contribute a lot to tooth decay.

In addition to all this, it is very important that you visit a dental clinic every six months. If you are confused as to which doctor to visit then search for a dentist near me options online can shortlist the dentist you wish to achieve.

Conclusion – A healthy diet, therefore, add on to various benefits and oral health is one of them. For healthy living, intake a healthy diet.
