Wix vs Weebly, what to choose and why? 2019 review
What is a website and what are website builders? Website is an online portal including web pages, domain name, multimedia all together published on one or more than one web page (building blocks of a website). Some websites can be accessed by everyone and some can only be accessed by several private identities. The way to create a website could be done online as well as offline. The software’s or sites used to do so are known as website builders. They were developed in the year 1990. Two of the most famous website builders are Weebly and Wix. Wix vs Weebly, both are drag and drop tools using creators but there must be some or other kind of difference between these two.
Difference between Weebly and Wix?
Wix and Weebly are popular website building platforms. The drag and drop website builder is Wix, which means you are able to drag anything, like text boxes and images, it is up to you that where you want to add the image. Editing is more restricted in Weebly, but is easier in Wix. They posses different features, pricing range etc.
If you want something done right and in a way you imagined, do it yourself. Thanks to Wix and Weebly, they offer this required feature. The easy to use facility providing you features to make a rich publishing content is the first and foremost feature of both the website builders.
The initial user must be facing the dilemma of either going for Wix or for Weebly because of its popularity among the users as well as because of the uses that are uploaded on their websites (they look similar at the first glimpse). To help you in making a correct decision, we have tested the two platforms, has gone through the feedbacks, checked videos on YouTube for the examples regarding Wix and Weebly websites.
The History of Wix vs Weebly is
Wix was developed by an Israeli company namely “Wix” back in the year 2006 while Weebly was incorporated by a company called “Square Inc.” in the year same as Wix that is 2006. But it was developed after Wix.
It is always not easy to understand through the data’s; we might need to contact the customer service to know how it exactly works.
To make it easier Wix provides tutorial videos, forums and also guide you on how to write articles etc. Telling about each and everything in the best possible way on their websites, Wix had done a great job. From the feedbacks, we have acquainted with the fact that they almost call you back in 30 mins or so to answer your queries, which in itself is a great achievement.
The support offered by them are 24*7 Support Center, toll free phone facility as well as a you can go for live chat. By emailing them, one can reach the expert and clear his/her doubts. While going through the feedbacks and FAQ’s we have come to a result. Weebly do answer the queries of their customers but they take more time as compared to Wix.
Wix’s specialized drag and drop feature helps you to fine tune the mobile looks of your website. With the help of this feature you can relocate, resize, hide, and customize the entire layout according to your need. Also, a special thing which is to be noted here is, that changes made in the website’s mobile version, does not affect the website’s Desktop version.
Weebly also provides a mobile optimization solution. It has a demerit that is only able to work with the old and non-responsive mobile template. Everyone now prefers a new and responsive mobile optimization tool. For responsive themes, Weebly provides ready mobile solutions.
Price and offers:
It works on the freemium policy. The least it can cost you is $4.50 per month. The VIP plans cost you $24.50.
Weebly’s is quite easier than Wix. The maximum it can cost is $49.50 per month. Depending on your needs there are different plans like starter, pro etc.
The ability to schedule posts and add authors, multiple commenting systems, password-protected blog posts, the blog archive and more. But once a theme is selected it can’t be changed unless and until you want to start it all gain.
Scheduled posts, multiple commenting systems, the ability to add custom header and footer code for individual posts.
Customizable tax and shipping rules, Multiple payment options, mobile commerce, the ability to generate promotional coupons, and more.
The ability to sell digital downloads and physical good, inventory management, Mobile checkout, filtered product search, etc.
Better at using (Pros):
No coding needed, customization is 100% beginner friendly, and Wix ADI can create a website for you in a matter of minutes.
No coding needed, structured templates give guidelines to follow.
Better at using (Cons):
Amount of choice and creative freedom can be overwhelming. They provide you 510 templates designed by experts making it hard to decide sometimes.
In testing people found it hard to get to grip with it, and is more restrictive than Wix.
Over 510 templates, these templates can be accessed through mobile, changes and customization could be done easily through mobile but can’t change templates once site is live and coding is not in-built into the editor.
Over 50 industry-tailored templates, unlike Wix, these templates can be customized even when these are uploaded; these are easily accessible through mobiles but its less creative control than Wix and are in less number when compared with Wix. But at the same time one is also able to export templates from other sites.
Developed in-house email marketing tool is offered by both Wix and Weebly. But in-house features are more in Weebly when compared to Wix whereas Wix has more ecommerce functions.
In this time period, social media is the best way to promote your website. Wix provides marketing both through social media and emails, leaving you and your team stress free. It is done by using Wix Shoutout.
Linking your email directly with your website is one of the features that Weebly promote provides. Rather than this you can also track your email stats etc.
Backup and Restore Options:
It saves ample numbers of copies of your website as backup. Therefore you can instantly restore it if something goes wrong.
Weebly allows you to export all the work of the website in a zip file but if you publish it or put it in the editor section then the changes cannot be undone.
One more feature that matter is the app markets, in which Weebly is the winner with a collection of over 300 apps.
Both website builders have their own merits and demerits. It is all up to your requirements and budget. But as per my personal favorite, Wix is my choice as it meets all my requirements from pricing to the features as per my needs.
